Subject: Volunteering at TSL

Dear Parents,

Throughout the years at TSL we have been blessed with any number of parents and congregational members who have stepped forward and offered their assistance to us through volunteering at TSL. Whether it has been assisting with the hot lunch program, coaching athletics, tutoring students, helping with Relay Day, chaperoning on field trips, or helping with basketball concessions and tournaments (just to name a few items), we have been thankful for the help given.

However, because of changes in society and the rise of sexual abuse in the United States, it has been necessary for the Joint Board of TSL to adapt a policy concerning volunteers at TSL. This policy is one that is also recommended by our Wisconsin Ev. Lutheran Synod and our insurance carrier.

Those volunteers who have access to children will need to receive a short orientation to volunteering at TSL. In addition to practical hints and suggestions to making your volunteering time at TSL enjoyable for you, we will also be asking TSL volunteers to view a video on sexual abuse and sign a statement indicating they have no past record of sexual abuse.

The orientation session will take place in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Western Avenue campus and will last about 30 minutes. Parents who received an orientation during previous school years do not need to repeat this orientation.

We thank all those who in the past have volunteered here at TSL. We hope many more of you will also be willing to give of your time in this way.

If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

In His Service,

James R. Moeller
